About Quakers in Britain

There are Quakers worldwide. We are part of Quakers in Britain, whilst Northern Island is part of Quakers in Ireland.

Quakers have no creeds, and in Britain we have no ministers; nor do we have a set service or prayers. We meet together in silence, and in this stillness hope to find a sense of connection – with our deeper selves, with each other, or with God, Light, Spirit. We wait expectantly for insights or guidance, and try to listen; trying to be open to what comes. Sometimes we may feel a strong need to share what we have found with others who are there. This is called ‘spoken ministry’. Anyone, including visitors, can contribute. This is part of our commitment to equality.

Perhaps the best way to find out about our form of worship is to experience a meeting. When you arrive you will be welcomed at the door. Do come in and sit wherever you like.

Learn more about our beliefs and values, how we conduct our business meetings (also known as meetings for church affairs), and about our lovely meeting house and garden that we love to share with others. You can learn more about Beccles Meeting through Facebook.

There is a wealth of information on the Quakers in Britain website or on Facebook (@BritishQuakers). A really good place for those who are curious is the Discovering Quakers website. You might also look at additional resources. It’s a great way to start your Quaker journey.
